Teaching :

PURPOSE: The purpose of the teaching program, is to help your department to start-up a Virtual Colonoscopy program.

TEACHING PROGRAM:

The TEACHING PROGRAM consists of:

1.       Teaching Module.

a.       A booklet giving an introduction to virtual colonoscopy with a focus on the practical aspects of virtual colonoscopy.

b.       The participants receive 10 virtual colonoscopy data sets with basic pathology (validated by optical colonoscopy) to practice and to obtain the basic experience. Information of the findings is given per case.

c.       Package of 75 examinations, which frequently is considered as the minimum set of examinations necessary to acquire a reliable level of experience in CTC.

The novice radiologist performs the 75 CTC examinations in his department.

The examinations are sent to VCTC on CD roms via regular post  or by VPN lines. VCTC has a collaboration with Nighthawk Radiology Services, a company specialized in tele-radiology and active in both Europe and the USA. This allows fast and secured transmission of both the examination and report.

VCTC gives advice and remarks concerning the practical aspects of each examination. This enables the novice to gradually learn the state-of-the-art technique of CTC.

The novice radiologist interprets the examination. VCTC performs a second reading and of course gives advise concerning the findings: What to do with a lesion? (Routine screening ? Surveillance? Removal? How to avoid false positives and negatives ?). This avoids the need to validate each CTC by an optical colonoscopy in the learning period.

d.       Test.
Once the 75 examinations have been performed, the radiologist receives a set of 25 CTC examinations (validated by optical colonoscopy) to examine and to test himself. The purpose is to obtain a sensitivity of 80 % for lesions > 6 mm. After this an evaluation is performed. If positive a certificate is given. If negative, further training is performed.

This activity is accredited by the Belgian government (CP units)

2.       Webcourse.

This course is available on the web. This is a theoretical course focussing on the imaging aspects of CTC going from normal anatomy to pitfalls. This webcourse is upgraded with new interesting cases at regular intervals.
Centres subscribing to the teaching program get free full access to this webcourse. The access is personalised for every single radiologist.

3.       Workshops.

We organize two-day workshops for groups with a limited number of 10 participants. These workshops focus on further education in CTC and are mainly dedicated to reading cases. The purpose is also to adapt the programme to the wishes of the participants.

Workshops are offered at reduced prices for centres signing up to the teaching program.
