What is VCTC?
Basicly, our goal is to teach Virtual Colonoscopy, being a technique with excellent results, but confronted with a long learning curve.
During this learning curve, we teach Virtual CT Colonoscopy using e-learning and teleradiology. Using teleradiology we offer a package of a minimum of 75 examinations we perform a second read on, thus offering remote mentorship, e.g. preceptorship.
These examinations can be send to us through the web (see Send Your Exams in the menu bar)
Why choose VCTC for education ?
Our education is different from all other educational programs in that VCTC offers you e-learning together with guidance during the first 75 examinations you perform yourself at your institution. This guidance is offered through teleradiology.
The combination of E-learning and guidance through teleradiology offers you the following unique advantages :
* no need to travel abrought to learn
* you get secondary readings you can use for your reports ( VCTC has an insurance for this for all member states of the European Union, Switserland, Qatar and Bahrein)
* you gain time since you can reduce your own reading time, knowing we will provide you with a secondary reading
Detailed information upon our educational program :
1. Tele-teaching module including double reading of 75 exams
performed by yourself at your own institution.
a. A booklet giving an introduction to virtual colonoscopy with a focus on the practical aspects of virtual colonoscopy.
b. The participants receive 10 virtual colonoscopy data sets with basic pathology (validated by optical colonoscopy) to practice and to obtain the basic experience. Information of the findings is given per case.
c. Package of 75 examinations, which frequently is considered as the minimum set of examinations necessary to acquire a reliable level of experience in CTC.
The novice radiologist performs the 75 CTC examinations in his department.
The examinations are sent to VCTC on CD roms via regular post or by VPN lines. VCTC has a collaboration with Nighthawk, a company specialized in tele-radiology and active in both Europe and the USA. This allows fast and secured transmission of both the examination and report.
VCTC gives advice and remarks concerning the practical aspects of each examination. This enables the novice to gradually learn the state-of-the-art technique of CTC.
The novice radiologist interprets the examination. VCTC performs a second reading and of course gives advise concerning the findings: What to do with a lesion? (Routine screening ? Surveillance? Removal? How to avoid false positives and negatives ?). This avoids the need to validate each CTC by an optical colonoscopy in the learning period.
d. Test.
Once the 75 examinations have been performed, the radiologist receives a set of 25 CTC examinations (validated by optical colonoscopy) to examine and to test himself. The purpose is to obtain a sensitivity of 80 % for lesions > 6 mm. After this an evaluation is performed. If positive a certificate is given. If negative, further training is performed.
e. Free access to the webcourse.

2. Webcourse.
This course is available on the web. This is a theoretical course focussing on the imaging aspects of CTC going from normal anatomy to pitfalls. This webcourse is upgraded with new interesting cases at regular intervals. You can get access to this course through our membership area, where you can preview the course as Free Trial Version.
3. Workshops.
We organize two-day workshops for groups with a limited number of 10 participants. These workshops focus on further education in CTC and are mainly dedicated to reading cases. The purpose is also to adapt the programme to the wishes of the participants.
